This course will allow you to become more adventurous and experiment using exceptional ingredients that will result in creating fantastic classical, mouth-watering dishes from Canada, Brazil, Mexico and USA.

The course will provide a strong foundation to build your culinary flair and provide tips to ensure making food is a fun and enjoyable past time.

You will explore quick and versatile methods in preparing and cooking food. This course will provide you with a small collection of recipes that you can recreate at home for special occasions or just a well-earned treat.

More information

This course is due to start on Thursday 6th February 2025. You will attend college on Thursday evening from 6.00pm – 9.00pm, for four weeks.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

The course will allow you to explore various ingredients, develop basic skills in cooking and encourage you to develop your own creative culinary ideas. You will learn new skills in culinary techniques to produce a range of dishes that could include:

  • Burritos
  • Burgers
  • Enchiladas
  • Brazilian  Mole
  • New York cheesecake

Course participants will be able to develop their awareness of Health and Safety relating to the preparation of food, food safety awareness, practical knife skills and stove control, whilst learning logical and coherent methods for producing Mexican dishes. You will study alongside like-minded people in classes delivered by friendly expert tutors and chefs.

There is no formal assessment. You will be given feedback based on your progress with suggestions and guidance for areas for improvement.

As with all our leisure courses, the main emphasis is to come and enjoy!

There are no formal entry requirements. The course is suitable for all levels of ability.

You will need to wear strong, flat sensible shoes and bring along an apron, tea towel, and an oven glove.

Please bring along a container to take what you have made home with you.

You may be eligible for funding if you have not recently participated in a similar programme, or received any other recent government funded training.

There are a number of fee options for this course including:

  • If you are unemployed – FREE
  • If you are employed – £30
  • If you are not eligible for funding – £120

The course price is inclusive of all the ingredients that you will need for each session.

You may wish to progress onto an accredited qualification in this subject, which will allow you to practice your skills in the industry.
