Preparing for Work in Health and Social Care (Level 1)

This course is a pre-employment programme, designed to support individuals to make the transition to employment within the health and social care sector.

During the course, learners will have the opportunity to explore the scope of health and social care settings for adults, children and young people and develop a deeper awareness and understanding of a range of job roles within this sector.

More information

This course has flexible start dates throughout the year and will take up to 30 hours, over 5 days to complete in the classroom. However, flexible learning can be offered, and more information can be provided on enquiry or at enrolment.

The course takes place at our Town Centre Campus, St Helens, WA10 1PP. The course can also be delivered at a variety of our other campus locations.

  • The principles of protection and safeguarding
  • Equality and diversity
  • Health and safety in the workplace
Students will be assessed through completion of a workbook.

No previous qualifications are necessary.

Learners will complete an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy at the start of the course. This is to help establish the academic level and starting point of each individual, and to identify any additional learner support needs.

You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, visit our dedicated Adult Financial support page.

This course provides fantastic progression on to the distance learning Level 2 Preparing to Work Adult Social Care or another accredited course, depending on your goals. Alternatively, this course may help you progress into employment. Your tutor will discuss this with you at the end of your course.
