Level 2 AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

AAT is the world's leading professional membership body for accounting technicians, with over 100,000 members worldwide.

The Level 2 AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting is designed for those who wish to develop both the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills needed to progress on to further study and/or pursue a successful career in accounting.

You will gain a broad and thorough introduction to accountancy whilst developing your skills in finance administration, bookkeeping, accounting software and purchasing.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course has start dates in February and September and will take one year to complete.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

You will study the following:

  • Bookkeeping transaction
  • Bookkeeping controls
  • Elements of costing
  • Working effectively in finance
  • Using accounting software

You will study alongside like-minded people in classes delivered by friendly, supportive tutors.

How is it assessed?

The course is assessed through computer-based assessments at the end of each unit. You will also undertake an end-of-year synoptic test once all units have been completed.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You must have achieved GCSEs at grade 4 or above (equivalent to grade C or above) in English and maths, or the equivalent.

All new applicants for an AAT course at St Helens College are required to undertake a centre devised numeracy and literacy assessment and attend an interview.

What are the course fees?

AAT membership fees are payable to the awarding body, and are not included in the course costs.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you may wish to progress on to the level 3 AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting. Alternatively, you may wish to secure employment within entry level accountancy roles.
