Level 3 AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting


This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

AAT is the world's leading professional membership body for accounting technicians, with over 100,000 members worldwide.

The Level 3 AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting is designed for those with a desire to progress in their career and potentially undertake further advanced study in accountancy and finance.

This qualification introduces you to more complex accounting tasks and financial processes, such as maintaining cost accounting records, the preparation of reports and returns, final accounts for sole traders and partnerships and professional ethics.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

You will study the following:

  • Advanced bookkeeping
  • Final accounts preparation
  • Management accounting costing
  • Indirect tax
  • Ethics for accountants
  • Spreadsheets for accounting

You will study alongside like-minded people in classes delivered by friendly, supportive tutors.

How is it assessed?

This course will be assessed through computer-based assessments for each of the first four units. The synoptic test will cover all six units at the end of the course.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have a level 2 AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting or an equivalent qualification. Related skills gained in the workplace will also be considered.

All new applicants for AAT at St Helens College are required to undertake a centre devised numeracy and literacy assessment and attend an interview.

What are the course fees?

If you are aged 19 or over, you could also choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees enabling you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility isn't dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments don't start until you have finished your course and earn over £27,295 per year. AAT membership fees are payable to the awarding body, and are not included in the course costs.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

After successfully completing this course, you could choose to progress on to the level 4 AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting.
