Level 2 Diploma in Nail Technology

If you are looking to embark on an exciting career as a Nail Technician, working either in a salon, nail bar or home salon, this qualification is designed to equip you with the knowledge, practical skills and industry required qualification to be able to do this with confidence!

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover:

  • Health and safety and safe working practices within the salon
  • Infection control within a salon environment
  • Salon reception duties and promoting additional services and products to clients
  • Developing and maintaining effectiveness in a real working environment
  • Providing effective client care and communication
  • Providing manicure and pedicure treatments including luxury elements
  • Applying and maintaining nail enhancements to create a natural finish
  • Carrying out nail art services
  • Anatomy and Physiology in detail (including bones, muscles, blood supply, nail and skin structure)

You will also use the latest products and brands such as Glitterbels by Annabel (vegan friendly), to ensure your skills and knowledge align to industry requirements and trends.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through a combination of practical observations, written assignments and portfolio building. You will also be required to complete online examinations.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have four GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and maths.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below a grade 4 in your English and/or maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your chosen course when you join us.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2024), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you could choose to progress on to one of the following to enhance your knowledge and skills:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology
  • Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair and Media Makeup

Alternatively, you may wish to gain employment within the industry.

Additional Information

As part of this programme, you are required to wear a uniform (tunic), which will be worn with black trousers or a skirt and a full black shoe. Our recommended uniform supplier is Florence Roby. There is also a kit required to complete your assessments which can be purchased from our recommended supplier, Dennis Williams. More information will be provided during the application process and you may be eligible for a bursary to cover these costs.
