Overview
How will I study?
As well as preparing for and attending lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops, you will be taught through theoretical concepts and discussions, supported by practical application to the business environment.
How will I be assessed?
This degree uses different forms of assessment to test intellectual development, vocational capabilities, and critical thinking. Assessment will take place through essays, case studies, reports, problem-solving exercises and presentations.
Who will be teaching me?
Lecturers are passionate about student learning and development. They are a highly qualified and experienced team with a wide range of interests reflecting all areas of business. They are also industry experienced professionals, with many years between them in a range of key business areas.
Entry Criteria
Entry Requirements
For 2021 entry, you must have a minimum of 240 UCAS Tariff points, obtained from the HND Business (Management) at University Centre St Helens or achieved at a comparable college or university that has modules which correlate with this degree.
Prior Learning and Experience
University Centre St Helens intends to recruit students from a varied range of backgrounds and experience. Offers of a place on this degree will not be based solely upon academic qualifications alone and related skills gained in the workplace will also be considered.
Additional Entry Requirements
All suitably qualified applicants will be invited to attend an interview. This is designed to be an informal meeting, providing you with the opportunity to see if this degree is suitable for your needs. It will also provide an opportunity for you to discuss and explore your career interests with the Programme Leader.
Information for International Applicants
If you are a non-EU/EEA/Swiss national, you may need to apply for a Tier 4 visa in order to enter and study in the UK. However, please note that University Centre St Helens does not hold a Tier 4 Sponsor Licence to support student visa applications.

Modules
BU6401 Managerial Decision Making and Change (20 credits)
This module explores all aspects of decision making and their functions in meeting managerial and corporate objectives. You will be required to gain a full awareness of the managerial decision-making process and the impact that information technology, knowledge and change has on this process.
BU6402 Managing Quality and Performance (20 credits)
This module examines the roles and responsibilities of managers within business operations; exploring the corporate, strategic and operational approaches relating to quality and performance management. It has a particular focus on how quality and performance impacts on the employee at an operational level.
BU6403 Strategic Management (20 credits)
During this module, you will examine the role of managers and administrators in organisations that have a strategic role. This module will also provide you with an awareness of the key strategic management approaches to help you deliver both short and long term aims/goals/objectives for the organisation and through the use of strategic models, guide the organisation in the correct strategic direction.
BU6405 Leadership (20 credits)
This module is designed to provide you with an understanding of the challenges faced by those involved in leading and renewing organisations in an increasingly complex and dynamic global operating environment. You will be introduced to models, theories and research in areas of strategic leadership practice and decision-making. Techniques for analysing organisations, their structures and interrelationships will be introduced and developed throughout the module.
BU6407 Extended Research Project (40 credits)
The extended research project module is designed to provide you with an opportunity to develop and extend your critical thinking within the domain of self-study. The module will focus on an aspect of business and you are required to undertake primary research on a business-related topic. Lectures will be used to deliver key concepts, ideas, theories and examples.
The learning and teaching strategy for the module will allow you to develop both subject-specific knowledge and key skills, in particular research and autonomous learning.

Career Prospects
Successful completion of this degree will enable you to seek employment in a range of business and management positions.
Previous graduates have gained employment in a range of business disciplines including marketing, finance and human resource management.
Graduates have secured career progression and promotion in management roles at supervisory and assistant management levels and have also secured places on a range of national graduate schemes.
Progression Routes
Graduates can use the BA (Hons) Business Administration and Management (Top-up) degree to progress on to postgraduate study in related areas, including teacher training.
Many students continue to progress their studies with University Centre St Helens, by undertaking the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). To progress on to the PGCE, a new application will need to be made.

For 2021 entry, tuition fees for full-time study are £7,750 per year.

Financial Support
Subject to eligibility, students can apply for a tuition fee loan from the Government to cover the full cost of tuition fees. UK students may also be eligible to apply for additional funding to help with living costs.
