Preparing to Work in Customer Service (Level 1)


This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and resilience to work in a range of customer facing environments and to deliver excellent customer service.

Our customer service training is always aligned to the most frequent method of communication used to connect with customers e.g. face to face, telephone, email.

This course can be delivered remotely online, in the classroom or by blended learning. Courses can also be delivered as part of packages, depending on your goals. More information can be provided on enquiry or at enrolment.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has flexible start dates throughout the year.

The flexibility of the course allows you to learn at your own pace and is estimated to take up to 35 hours to complete.

What will I study?

Topics covered, include:

  • Adopting a consistent, professional communication style when speaking with customers
  • Developing skills in engaging with customers and handling their enquiries effectively
  • Listening effectively, asking questions and summarising to respond fully to a customer request
  • Identifying ways to add value to customer relationships, to exceed expectations
  • Practising how to turn customer service disappointment into a positive experience
  • Interview techniques

How is it assessed?

This course can be completed through online learning, classroom based learning, or both (blended learning). Achievement of the course is through completion of a workbook.

Full tutor support will be provided throughout the course and you will be able to contact your tutor via telephone and email.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

No previous qualifications are necessary. This course is suitable for anyone that is looking to progress on to an accredited course.

What are the course fees?

You may be eligible for Community Learning funding if you have not recently participated in a similar Community Learning programme, or received any other recent government-funded training.

There are a number of fee options for this course including:

  • If you are unemployed - FREE
  • If you are employed - £30

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

This course provides fantastic preparation and progression into employment within a customer service role.
