At St Helens College, you’ll be preparing delicious dishes and using the latest techniques to achieve a successful career within the catering industry. Creativity forms an important part of catering, as you'll be selecting which flavours to use in an exciting new dish and learning how to present your food to the highest possible standards.

Our tutors have had successful careers at Michelin star restaurants, so you can be confident in knowing that you are learning from the best.

You will benefit

Working in our industry-standard kitchens and fine dining restaurant, Colours, you’ll take your first steps to securing a successful career in the catering industry. Many of our students have prepared food for banquets at Everton Football Club, cooked for the British Army and catered for conferences of up to 3,000 people at the Liverpool Echo Arena.

You will succeed

Follow in the footsteps of our previous students who now work with industry leaders such as Liverpool Art School or the Gleneagles Hotel. Others have gone on to work alongside celebrity chefs, including Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White. Whilst other students have gone on to launch their own catering businesses, such as Goya Griffiths’ Thai inspired restaurant, Chiang Mai Bistro.

Celebrity chefs Jon Ashton and John Campbell also graduated from St Helens College. Ashton, who now lives in the USA, has appeared on The Today Show, The Tonight Show and is the current food correspondent for the nation’s morning show, The Daily Buzz. Campbell owns two Michelin Star restaurants, writes articles and recipes for The Sunday Times and The Observer Food Monthly, and he also appears as a guest chef on Master Chef and Saturday Kitchen.

You will stand out

To help you stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs or further qualifications, you will be encouraged to participate in industry competitions such as The North West Commis Chef awards. Our students have also scooped gold in the Battle of the Northwest culinary competition.
