Level 3 Diploma in Food and Beverage Service and an Introduction to Event Planning (Adult Course)

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

Developing your experience in our award-winning restaurant, Colours, this course enhances your knowledge of the hospitality industry while providing an introduction to event planning.

You will also develop supervisory and leadership skills that are crucial to succeeding in the industry.

Our students have secured employment in some of the most successful establishments across the UK, such as The Art School, The Pig Hotel, The Thistle Hotel, Mercure and The Shankly Hotel.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

This course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Principles of food safety supervision for catering
  • Principles of supervising food and beverage services
  • Principles of promoting food and beverage services and products
  • Principles of supervising customer service performance in hospitality, leisure and travel and tourism
  • Legislation in food and beverage service
  • Supervising food and beverage service
  • Carve, fillet, joint and serve food in a food service area
  • Preparing and serving alcoholic and cold non-alcoholic beverages
  • Preparing and serving cocktails
  • Preparing and serving wines
  • Preparing, cooking and serving food in a food service area
  • Providing advice to customers on food and beverage matching
  • Supervising hospitality events
  • Legal and social responsibilities of a personal licence holder

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by assignments and observations whilst undertaking a full range of supervisory and food and beverage tasks and short written tests.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have four GCSEs at grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above, including English or maths, or a level 2 qualification (or equivalent).

What are the course fees?

If you are aged 19+ you could also choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees enabling you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility isn't dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments don't start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,725 per year.
