Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work Practice

With this course, you will gain exciting work experience in a youth work setting, alongside developing your knowledge in the classroom.

Successful completion of this course could lead to you achieving Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) recognition, a status that is highly valued by employers in the industry.

You will learn about young people's development and safeguarding while understanding challenging behaviour and how to engage and communicate effectively.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course starts in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following:

  • Theory of youth work
  • Safeguarding in a youth work setting
  • Young people's development
  • Engaging and communicating with young people
  • Working with challenging behaviour in youth work settings
  • Reflective practice in a youth work setting
  • Work-based practice in youth work
  • Group work within a youth work setting

You may also have the opportunity to choose from the following options below:

  • Anti-discriminatory practice in youth work
  • Work with young people to reduce involvement in anti-social and or criminal
  • Support young people who are looked after or in care
  • Principles of supporting young people in relation to sexual health and risk of pregnancy
  • Understand how youth work can support young people who are experiencing poverty

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by evidenced case studies, reflective logs / diaries, assignments, essays and practice files. All assessment tasks require evidence of your learning and understanding of theory and practice.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have a GCSE at grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above, in English and experience of working with young people in a youth support role.

You will also need a clear DBS to gain entry to this course. More information will be provided upon receipt of your application.*

*A DBS costs £44 and can be claimed back once you have successfuly completed this course.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2020), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you could achieve Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) recognition, and will have the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to secure employment in the industry as a qualified Youth Worker.
