Maths for Parents - Secondary School


This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

Whether your child has just started secondary school, or is in year 10 or 11 and studying for their GCSE's, this course is perfect for you!

With the recent impact on children's learning following Covid-19 and homeschooling, the need to address gaps in learning is clear. Parents and carers can support this by helping with your child's learning at home.

During this course, we will provide parents with the knowledge and tools they need to help support their children, ensuring they continue to make good progress and achieve the best result they can!

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course will start in october and will take four weeks to complete. You will attend College for two hours per week.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP

What will I study?

Topics covered include:

  • The changes in maths
  • The topics covered in the specification and their weighting
  • BIDMAS
  • Practical ways parents can help
  • Problem solving and reasoning

How is it assessed?

There are no formal assessments.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You do not need any previous qualifications to undertake this course.

What are the course fees?

This course is free to study, providing you do not already hold a grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above at GCSE level in this subject.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you may choose to progress one of our other English and maths courses such as Functional Skills or GCSE.
