English Taster

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

Our English Taster Session is designed to be studied in advance of starting a Functional Skills or GCSE English qualification.

It is ideal for those who are lacking in confidence and may need some extra help and support.

The course includes aspects of English that you need to know about in order to be best prepared to start an English qualification.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has various start dates throughout the year and will take three weeks to complete.

There are a variety of study options with both day and evening classes available.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

You will have the opportunity to practice reading, writing, speaking and listening skills across a range of tasks and topics.

During the course you will learn about different writing and reading techniques; how to participate effectively in discussions and debates and how to tackle exam questions.

You will also have the opportunity to learn more about English grammar, spelling and rules of punctuation.

How is it assessed?

There are no formal assessments.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You do not need any previous qualifications to undertake this course.

What are the course fees?

This course is free to study, providing you do not already hold a grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above at GCSE level in this subject.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Successful completion of this course will ensure you are fully prepared to begin a Functional Skills or GCSE English course.
