Level 3 Certificate in Barbering

Develop your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques used to cut, trim, shape and taper client's hair to perfection.

Working in a salon environment, you will also supervise and support your colleagues to ensure health and safety procedures are followed while providing an excellent customer service.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During the course you will cover the following:

  • Health and safety
  • Client consultation
  • Cutting men's hair to create a variety of looks
  • Cutting men's facial hair to a variety of looks

How is it assessed?

All work is continually assessed throughout the year with practical observations, written examinations and assignments.

You are also required to build a portfolio of evidence to support the work you have carried out through the year.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have successfully achieved a level 2 Barbering qualification.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below a grade 4 in your English and/or maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your chosen course when you join us.

If you already have a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths but wish to achieve a higher grade, we can also support you to do this.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2020), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you could progress on to a HNC or HND in Hair and Beauty Management, level 4 Male Grooming or gain employment within this exciting sector.

Additional Information

As part of this programme you are required to wear a uniform (tunic), which will be worn with black trousers or a skirt and a full black shoe. There is also a kit required to complete your assessments which can be purchased from a recommended supplier. You may be eligible for a bursary to cover these costs.
