Level 2 Certificate in Barbering (Adult Course)

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This course is suitable for those who wish to launch a career in barbering.

Whilst developing a variety of cutting skills and techniques to achieve different effects and designs, you will also gain a thorough understanding of how to effectively deliver hair services to men.

This qualification is based on barbering National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's leading barbering association (British Barbering Association - BBA) as being fit for purpose for preparing you for a career as a Senior Barber.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has start dates throughout the year and will take one year to complete.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following:

  • Maintaining health and safety in the barbershop
  • Client consultation for barbering services
  • Creatively cutting men's hair
  • Creating facial hair designs

How is it assessed?

You will be continually assessed throughout the course, completing all of your assessments on a commercial client (paying customer). Your commercial client could be a family member or a friend.

You will also build an evidence-based portfolio of work, to capture the practical skills and experience that you have developed on your course.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should be able to demonstrate your passion and enthusiasm for working in the industry.

Alongside this course, a work placement within a barbershop is essential, as this will ensure your skills and techniques are on trend and your commercial knowledge enhanced.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

There are a range of career opportunities as a Junior Barber, after completing further training, within areas such as:

  • Commercial barbershops
  • Self-employment

Students will also have the opportunity to develop their skills further by undertaking more advanced qualifications, including:

  • Level 3 Certificate in Barbering
  • Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing
