Level 2 Certificate in Work-based Horticulture (Adult Course)

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

If you want to work in the design and care of large parks, botanic and public gardens and sports areas, this is the right course for you as it provides you with the required skills and knowledge to enable progression into employment.

You'll be working across a variety of locations in the local region, establishing and maintaining plants, preparing ground and using machinery as well as some classroom work.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take up to 6 months to complete. You will attend College on a Tuesday and Thursday, from 9.00am - 4.00pm.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Health and safety in the workplace
  • Ground preparation
  • Establishing plants outdoor
  • Develop personal performance
  • Use and maintain handheld and pedestrian controlled tools and machines

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by project work practical demonstrations and observations as well as written knowledge evidence questions. There are no formal exams.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have successfully completed a level 1 horticulture qualification.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon completion of this course, you may want to improve your skills and knowledge further by topping-up your certificate to a full diploma through an additional period of study. Following this, you may want to progress on to one of our level 3 courses.
