Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Horticulture (Adult Course)

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

Throughout this course, you will work across a range of parks and open spaces to create decorative areas, establish and maintain plants and prepare ground.

You will also have the opportunity to explore decorative horticulture practices, nursery and interior soft landscaping maintenance or greenkeeping, sports turf and sports ground maintenance.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete. You will attend College on a Tuesday and Thursday, from 9.00am - 4.00pm.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Monitoring and maintaining health and safety
  • Developing personal performance and maintaining working relationships
  • Carry out ground maintenance activities
  • Landscape decorative areas
  • Use a range of equipment

In addition to the above, you will also have the opportunity to choose from the following:

  • Decorative horticulture practices
  • Nursery/interior soft landscaping maintenance
  • Greenkeeping/sports turf/sportsground maintenance and hard landscapes

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by project work and practical demonstrations. There are no formal exams.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have successfully achieved a level 1 horticulture qualification.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have completed this course, you may want to improve your skills and knowledge further by moving on to our level 3 Diploma in Work-based Horticulture.

Alternatively, you could look for a job as an Amenity Horticulturist and begin your exciting new career in the great outdoors.
