Introduction to Car Maintenance


This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

During this course you will learn the basics of vehicle maintenance and repair for light motor vehicles.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has various start dates throughout the year and will take five weeks to complete.

The course takes place at St Helens College, STEM Centre Campus, St Helens, WA9 1TT.

What will I study?

You will learn the basics of vehicle maintenance and repair for light motor vehicles.

How is it assessed?

There is no formal assessment. The course is aimed to increase your knowledge of the subject matter.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements. All you will need is commitment and enthusiasm.

As with all our introduction courses the main emphasis is to come and enjoy.

What are the course fees?

You may be eligible for Community Learning funding if you have not recently participated in a similar Community Learning programme, or received any other recent government-funded training.

There are a number of fee options for this course including:

  • If you are unemployed - FREE
  • If you are employed - £30

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

This course is designed to enable you to better maintain your own vehicle. This does not qualify you for a role in the sector but could help you to decide if you would like to progress on to further study.
