Level 1 Motor Vehicle Traineeship

This Traineeship programme will provide you with the opportunity to attend college, to develop basic knowledge of the motor vehicle industry, improve your employability skills and complete English and/or maths (if applicable), whilst completing work experience within a motor vehicle setting.

This course aims to help prepare you to progress onto either a full-time study programme or an apprenticeship.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course will start in January 2021 and will last between 6-12 months, depending on the individual.

This course will require you to attend college for 2 days in per week and complete a work placement of at least 70 hours, which the College will arrange.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following:

  • Level 1 IMI Award in Transport Maintenance
  • Level 1 IMI Award in Personal and Social Development
  • English and/or maths if applicable
  • Substantial work placement

How is it assessed?

During your course, you will be assessed through a combination of exams, a work-based log and portfolio of evidence.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have achieved at least 2 GCSEs (with one being English or maths) at grade 3/D or above, or have relevant work experience.

What are the course fees?

This programme is free for those aged 16-24.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you've completed this course, you may choose to apply for an apprenticeship, enter full-time work or join a College course.
