This section will explain what physical devices you will need to learn from home and will also include some information on pieces of kit that will make learning from home much easier. You have several options in terms of equipment that you can use, and you may already have what is needed to engage with remote learning.
Option 1 – Windows Laptop/Computer
If you have a laptop or computer running Windows, you are off to a good start. Your Windows machine is likely to be able to get all the programs/apps that you need. However, it is recommended that you get yourself a headset with a microphone. These can be purchased very cheaply and will serve two purposes:
- When you put your headset on, this is when it is “learning time”
- It helps to cancel out background noise, both as a speaker and a listener

Option 2 – Using a Tablet/iPad
If you have a tablet or iPad you can also engage in remote learning. It some ways it is easier, but there are some challenges too. You should be able to get all the apps that you need and again, it is advisable that you invest in a headset.
You may want to also consider a Bluetooth keyboard and stand to keep your tablet screen at the correct angle. This will allow you to make good use out of the Microsoft Office programs, without compromising on productivity. The on-screen keyboard will work fine, but you may notice that you are not able to produce work as quickly as what you would with a keyboard.
Option 3 – Using Your Phone
Another option is to use your phone. Phones are essentially smaller versions of tablets (in terms of functionality). You should still be able to get all the apps that you need. As with the previous options, you may want to invest in additional equipment to work more productively.
Additional equipment may include a headset, Bluetooth keyboard, stand and also a cable that you can use to attach your phone to your TV (HDMI cable). These cables vary greatly depending on your device. It may be worth speaking to somebody who is IT savvy to find out which cable is appropriate.
Option 4 - Using Xbox or PlayStation

There may be other options and additional equipment/hardware are just suggestions to make yourself more productive, they are not essential. It can be tricky getting used to working in a different way, but perseverance pays off!
