BA2 Exhibition 2018Staff and students at University Centre St Helens were delighted with the support received at the BA2 exhibition private view on Tuesday 17th April 2018. Attended by almost 60 visitors, second year students from the BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting degree exhibited a range of work in the Heart of Glass, Pilkington Gallery, SmithKline Beecham’s building.

Utilising the ground floor space, natural light reflected off the exhibited pieces, which had been hung by the students as part of their assessment, to showcase their array of work in its best format.

Exhibitor and current student, Liz Brookes, whose work is heavily influenced by Modernist Art, including Pablo Picasso and Analytical Cubism, explains the process from conception to display:

“Work on the exhibition began back in January, with the creation of over ninety collages that aim to capture different viewpoints of static objects, with the illusion of movement. After selecting the best four, I began to work on my paintings, that portray the difference between static and moving objects through the use of statues. The BA2 exhibition has allowed me to make key decisions on selection of pieces, hanging and annotation, important skills that are vital for success in this competitive industry and opportunities which provide us, as artists, with a glimpse into what life as a practicing artist would really be like.”

Wayne Robinson, Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting degree added:

“I am extremely proud of all of the students this year, as they have explored in detail a range of line, colour, texture and materials, tying into their individual themes whilst meeting assessment and exhibition objectives. The exhibition allows the students to really think about their work from influences to purpose, meaning and display and provides an insight into what they can expect, post-graduation, as practicing artists.”

The intimate exhibition, showcasing the work of students runs until Friday 20th April and is open daily to members of the public and general community from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
