Our second year BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting students have had their first experience of exhibiting their work as part of the BA2 Fine Art Painting Exhibition.

Now in its eleventh year, this annual event provides a unique opportunity for students to showcase their excellent work. The third floor of our SmithKline Beecham Building has been transformed into a walkthrough gallery, capturing the wealth of thematic and conceptual considerations of our bright students.

Course tutor, Fiona Stirling, told us, "Our students have worked extremely hard to put on this group exhibition showing their progress so far. I have been so impressed with how they have worked as a team, always supporting each other. The work is outstanding; I’m really excited to see how their work develops in their final year!"

Katrina, one of the students exhibiting her work, used this opportunity to display her acrylic and oil paintings depicting dilapidated and derelict buildings in Runcorn and the surrounding areas, demonstrating a keen eye for detail. Another student, Sam, has produced thought provoking pieces concerning climate change and cloud formations.

Another student, Saudina, completed a range of paintings depicting lichens. “This was a great opportunity to show everybody what we’ve been working on,” Saudina told us, following a successful opening night that included a private viewing for family and friends. “We can’t wait for next year’s exhibition!”

A fellow student attending the gallery commented, “the way the art is displayed makes great use of the space. The framing really allows you to appreciate the finer details of the pieces.”

There is still time to view this impressive exhibition for yourself; the pieces will be on display in our SmithKline Beecham Building until 4:30pm on Friday 1st April. View our gallery below for a preview!
