Alex is serving up a storm

Hospitality student, Alex, is serving up a storm after impressing industry leading experts, and securing himself a role as a Commis Waiter at Chef Patron, Paul Askew’s, exclusive fine dining restaurant, The Art School.

The 18-year-old, originally from Rhodes, moved to the UK a year ago in search of better career opportunities and a desire to pursue his dream of working in the UK’s bustling hospitality sector.

Upon moving to the UK, Alex joined the level 2 Diploma in Food and Beverage Services at St Helens College, and with a willingness to succeed and an ambition for the industry, Alex soon stood out and landed himself a work placement at Paul Askew’s, The Art School.

Impressed by his outstanding drive and competency to learn, Paul offered Alex a permanent position that would fit around his studies at College.

Now having successfully completed his course, Alex works at The Art School full-time as part of Paul’s elaborate team, alongside two of his successful course mates, Kyle and Leon.

Alex first had the opportunity to meet Paul during an exclusive visit to Anfield Stadium, where our Catering and Hospitality students helped to host a fine dining fundraising dinner for over 150 people, working alongside some of the industry’s top chefs, including Paul Askew, Anfield’s Executive Chef, Chris Marshall, Lisa Allen, Executive Chef at Michelin star Northcote Restaurant, and many more.

Speaking to Alex about his experience with us, he said, “I can’t thank St Helens College enough for where I am today. The hospitality course gave me the break I needed to start my career in the industry. I am excited to take my new skills with me as I take on future roles.”

He added, “My ultimate goal is to be able to travel the world, working in some of the best award-winning restaurants, where I look forward to accumulating as much experience and opportunities as I possibly can.”

Alex is hoping his bilingual ability, matched with his work experience, will give him the unique advantage he desires, to live out his dream of working in restaurants across the globe.

Follow in Alex’s footsteps and discover an exciting career in the thriving Catering and Hospitality sector! Apply now to secure your place today. For more information on our courses, click here.
