CIPD level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management

"My tutor was inspirational, a natural teacher who is extremely knowledgeable in every area of HR."

Joanne JarvisJoanne, 46, from Liverpool, has had a working career spanning the last 25 years. Starting out in the insurance industry, she gradually progressed her way up the ranks into a management position. After 14 years of working in the industry, and having started a new family, Joanne was looking for a career change and became interested in HR, securing a position with Allied Bakeries.

Joanne says “It was the perfect change for me as the transferable skills that I had acquired as a manager, could be utilised effectively in a HR role.”

Following eight years with Allied Bakeries, Joanne went on to work for T J Morris Ltd (Home Bargains) and secured a promotion as Senior HR Advisor. However, Joanne was looking to acquire the knowledge and skills which would allow her to take her career even further. She enrolled on the Level 5 CIPD Intermediate Certificate and Diploma in Human Resource Management at a university in Liverpool. Following completion of this course, a work colleague recommended University Centre St Helens Chartered Institute Personnel Development (CIPD) accredited Human Resource qualifications. With this in mind and wanting to continue her studies she enrolled on the two year, level 7 CIPD Advanced Diploma in HRM. The part-time course is perfect for HR professionals within a team or HR functional management role who are seeking to enhance and develop their career further.

Joanne fully enjoyed the course but says it was challenging at times, “I loved the course so much that I was sad when it came to an end; although it was challenging at times, due to juggling both personal and work commitments. However, it was very rewarding and I am now able to apply my new knowledge in my day job.”

During her time at University Centre St Helens, Joanne found her tutors to be an inspiration, sharing a wealth of knowledge in their subject areas. Joanne says “My tutor was inspirational, a natural teacher who is extremely knowledgeable in every area of HR. The content of the course met my high expectations.”

Joanne adds “I would definitely recommend the course to any HR practitioner who wants to underpin their work experiences and knowledge with theory.”

Joanne is now planning to continue with her studies “I have worked in HR for over 10 years and love the job I do. Every day brings new challenges and I enjoy the interaction that I have with managers at all levels and employees. I am going to continue with my education and now work towards my Masters degree.”

Joanne believes that anybody who is thinking of studying for a professional qualification should go for it. Joanne says “Go for it, you won’t regret it. University Centre St Helens provides great teaching in a comfortable and friendly environment with impressive facilities in an accessible location.”
