Chris PoldingChris Polding, 30, works as a Site Director for a global leader in the manufacture of beverage alcohol for some of the world’s most iconic brands in spirits, beer and wine.

Chris, originally from St Helens, was well aware of the investment in St Helens College and recognised that it a great place to study for a wide range of professionally accredited qualifications. Looking to broaden his skills set, along with the motivation to become a chartered manager, Chris enquired about Management qualifications.

Management qualifications on offer at St Helens College and University Centre St Helens are accredited by Chartered Institute of Management (CMI), the only chartered body in the UK that awards management and leadership qualifications. They are designed for managers, to support the development of their leadership and management skills in personal development, leadership, management resources, information, performance and market awareness.

Chris explains his journey. He says: “I enquired and spoke with course leader, Michelle Aitken who took my previous qualifications and experience into account, making me eligible to go straight in at level 5.”

This CMI level 5 Extended Diploma in Leadership and Management course is designed for practising middle managers and those aspiring to senior management who want to develop their core management skills. It is a formal, professional qualification that will reinforce existing knowledge, build on current work experience and prepare for future career advancements.
In September 2016, with the support of his employer, Chris enrolled onto the CMI level 5 Extended Diploma in Leadership and Management.

Chris says there was a number of factors as to why he chose to study at St Helens College, “I chose to study for my management qualifications at St Helens College due to its convenient location, facilities and the flexibility of classes taking place of an evening. The part-time study is designed to fit around busy work and family schedules.”

Looking to the future, Chris will be progressing onto the CMI level 7 Diploma in Strategic Leadership and Management (Postgraduate) in September 2017. In autumn 2017, Chris became a fully Chartered Manager, the highest status that can be achieved in the management profession.

Encouraging others to take up a professional qualification, Chris says: “I would encourage anyone to join St Helens College regardless of their age or academic ability. You can study a full range of chartered manager qualifications which are valued by employers throughout the world.”
