Degree: Certificate in Education (Education and Training)
Career: College Tutor

Marie has over 18 years' experience working in a Further Education setting and has a passion for supporting students to achieve their potential through education.

Beginning her career by providing in-class support to students with additional learning needs at St Helens College, whilst volunteering as a Youth Worker in her spare time at Windlehurst Youth Club, Marie's ambition for progression led her to securing a Key Worker role in the College's Foundation Learning Department.

With a thirst for teaching and a new challenge, Marie went on to complete an assessor's qualification and the Level 3 Award in Education and Training in just a short, two-year period, which enabled her to advance her skills and knowledge.

Marie says, "The Level 3 Award in Education and Training was a great opportunity to take my first steps towards progression within a teaching capacity."

Since then, Marie completed the Certificate in Education (Education and Training) (Level 5), on a part-time basis, which enabled her to balance studying with her work commitments. Marie explains, "At first, I was apprehensive about getting back into studying, however, being part of a group of Trainee Teachers, made me feel at ease and we were able to share ideas and best practice to develop our personal skills further."

Commenting on her time at University Centre St Helens, Marie adds, "The support that I received from the tutors has helped to develop my confidence as a Teacher and has enabled me to plan, prepare and deliver sessions that stretch and challenge my students."

Marie, now a successful graduate, has secured a full-time teaching position as a College Tutor at St Helens College, supporting students who are not currently in education, employment or training, to develop their confidence and a range of valuable personal, academic and employability skills.
