Career Ambition: Further Education Dance and Drama Tutor
24-year-old degree student, Laura has a real passion for theatre and performance, and is driven by her desire to share this passion with young aspiring performers, through a career in teaching.
After attending Pendleton Performing Arts College, Laura began the next stage of her educational journey at Liverpool John Moores University, where she graduated with a full BA (Hons) degree in dance and performance. It was whilst undertaking work experience in the performing arts industry alongside her degree, that Laura decided to embark on a career in teaching, specialising in dance and drama, to enable her to share her skills and experience with students at college level.
University Centre St Helens’ key town centre location and the flexible, part-time study mode of the PGCE, was the driving force behind Laura’s decision to enrol with us.
Laura comments that the part-time route was “so beneficial” for her, as she was able to gain additional teaching experience by undertaking the qualification over a two year period. She adds, “The course progressed at a great flexible pace, which fitted around both my family commitments and teaching placement at Warrington and Vale Royal College.”
Laura commends her lecturers, staying, “The tutors are brilliant - the amount of feedback and support you receive is terrific. I am now a confident tutor with the ability to construct lesson plans and teach enjoyable sessions that really make an impact on my students!”
