Hairdressing and Barbering
A career in hairdressing and barbering can take you anywhere in the world, from working in a spa, at holiday resorts and on film and TV sets, to cruise liners and even the theatre. It’s hard work but it’s exciting!
Based in our commercial hairdressing salon, The Lounge, you will work with paying clients, creating beautiful hair designs, perfecting your cutting skills and discovering how to trim men’s facial hair with precision.
St Helens College offers an extensive range of courses from level 1 qualifications through to degree level study.

The Lounge features a hairdressing salon, three treatment rooms and a nail bar with additional spa facilities including a monsoon shower, ice facility, dry flotation chamber, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.

To ensure that you stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs or additional qualifications, we encourage you to participate in events such as the Association of Hairdressing and Therapists (AHT) annual competition and WorldSkills UK.
