Level 2 Diploma in Airport Operations

This course is deisgned to provide you with the knowledge, skills and training to enable you to work at the airport in a ground handling role.

You will be learning what it's like to work in passenger services, checking in and boarding passengers, as well as dispatch, baggage and ramp services.

You will also have the opportunity to undertake a planned work placement and through trips, visits and seminars, you will meet employers from the aviation industry.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

This course will cover the following units:

  • Aviation health and safety
  • Security
  • Communication
  • Check‐in, boarding and arrivals services
  • Baggage processing, loading and unloading baggage and baggage facilities
  • Load instruction reports
  • Aircraft marshalling
  • Support flight operations
  • Dispatch

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through a combination of role plays, short answer questions, assignment writing, power point presentations and story boards.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, (equivalent to grade D or above) including English and maths.

English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the neccessary grades, as we'll do all that we can to help you achieve them.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16‐18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2018), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you've completed this course, you'll have the necessary skills and knowledge to work in an airport ground handling company including dispatch, checking in and boarding passengers, load control department or baggage handling.
