Level 4 Certificate for the Advanced Practitioner in Schools and Colleges (Work-based) (Adult Course)

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This course aims to provide professional development opportunities for practitioners working in the school and college environment.

The qualification will build upon the experience, proven knowledge and skills of the learner, in a teaching and learning environment. It will challenge the learner in both daily practice and theoretical understanding.

Learners will research and develop skills and knowledge in leadership, mentoring, coaching and reflection as they complete the qualification through a range of methods.

Upon achievement of this qualification, the learner will be equipped as an Advanced Practitioner. The Advanced Practitioner will use crucial leadership skills to mentor others across all roles and responsibilities in the school or college workforce.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has flexible start dates throughout the year and will take one year to complete.

The course is mainly assessed in the workplace and you will be assigned a tutor/assessor at the beginning of the course, who will work with you throughout the programme.

There is no full class room activity, the candidate will arrange to meet the assessor in College or at their place of work.

What will I study?

During this course, you will study the following units:

  • Unit 1: Enabling individuals to learn
  • Unit 2: Understand how to support children and young people with their mental health and wellbeing
  • Unit 3: Working with others to support individuals with additional needs and disability in a school or college setting
  • Unit 4: Working with families or other professionals in a school or college setting
  • Unit 5: Implement change in a school or college setting

How is it assessed?

The course is assessed using an online portfolio of work. You will be required to provide evidence for 5 mandatory units using a range of methods, which include written assignments, work products, and witness statement.

As part of this qualification you will also undertake a small scale research project.

Each learner will be assigned an assessor who will support you through your qualification.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

Learners must be employed in a suitable role within a school or college. Experience, knowledge and an understanding of working in schools or colleges is a requirement for this CPD qualification.

Previous study at Level 3 would be beneficial but is not essential.

What are the course fees?

The total cost of this course is £811.

If you are aged 19 or over, you could also choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees enabling you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility isn't dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments don't start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000 per year. There are also a number of payment options including an interest-free payment plan with a monthly direct debit payment.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

On completion of this course, you could choose to progress onto higher education. Alternatively, you may progress within the workforce in the following job roles and responsibilities:

  • Higher Level Practitioner/Teaching Assistant
  • Leadership, mentoring, supervision and management opportunities
