UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts

This intensive course, approved by University of the Arts London (UAL) Awarding Body, one of the leading performing arts universities in the country, is specifically designed to challenge and train aspiring arts professionals, to enable them to prepare for degree-level study and their careers in the industry.

Delivered by professional actors, directors and choreographers actively working in the industry, you will explore, develop and test your creativity in a practical training environment including our bespoke theatres, dance studios and workshops.

Tailored to meet the demands of the industry, you will develop a broad range of performance skills and technical abilities, culminating in a live end-of-year performance.

Successful alumna, Rebecca, achieved D*D*D* after completing this course and has now progressed to London College of Music to study a degree in Musical Theatre.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take two years to complete.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

During this course, you will complete projects based on the realistic activities and demands of the theatre.

Observing live performances forms a crucial part of your development, so take advantage of trips to London's West End and local theatres such as The Everyman in Liverpool to inspire you in preparation for your own performance in our bespoke theatre and at external venues.

How is it assessed?

There are no exams. This course is 100% practical and project based which allows you to explore and express your creativity in an open environment.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have three GCSEs at grade 4 or above or should have successfully achieved a UAL Level 2 Award and Diploma in Performing and Production Arts.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below a grade 4 in your English and/or maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your chosen course when you join us.

Students will also need to take part in a practical audition. This could be a 1-2 minute performance of a song, dance, monologue, movement piece, circus skill or improvisation. More information will be provided once you have applied.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2024), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

As this course is equivalent to three A levels and can enable you to achieve up to 168 UCAS Tariff Points, you have the opportunity to progress on to university.

Many students choose to continue their studies with us and progress on to a degree in Theatre and Performance at University Centre St Helens, approved by university partner, University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). Alternatively, you will have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of degrees at other universities or dance/drama schools.

This UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts, approved centre for UAL Awarding Body, is highly valued and sought after by employers and universities, so should you wish to enter the industry upon completion of this course, you could choose from a wide range of careers such as:

  • Freelance director
