Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing

This course is the first step towards a successful career as a plumber.

You will learn how to use hand tools as you master the art of pipe bending and soldering techniques,whilst working towards installing bathrooms and heating systems.

Plumbing has fantastic job prospects and could provide you with a career for life.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

For students aged 19 and above, you will attend College for two evenings per week from 6.00pm - 9.00pm.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following:

  • Health and safety
  • Basic principles and jointing processes
  • Scientific principles of plumbing
  • Principles of hot water
  • Principles of cold water
  • Principles of heating and sanitation systems

In addition to this, you will have the opportunity to gain some work experience within the construction industry.

How is it assessed?

During this course, you'll be assessed by a range of practical and online assessments.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

If you are aged 16-18, you should have GCSEs at grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above in English and maths. If you do not achieve this, you will be supported to complete this alongside your course.

However, if you are aged 19 and above, you do not need any formal qualifications, just passion and a commitment to your studies.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2018), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

However, if you are aged 19 or over, course fees are dependent on your personal circumstances and you may be eligible for funding to cover course fees. If you are aged 19-23 and this is your first full level 1 qualification, 100% of your course fees will be covered.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

This course is the first step towards becoming a successful plumber.

If you are aged 16-18, you could progress on to the level 2 course to enhance your skills and knowledge. Alternatively, you could secure an apprenticeship with an employer and earn whilst you learn.

If you are aged 19 and above, you could find employment as a plumber in the industry.
