Level 2 Certificate in Welding Techniques and Skills (Adult Course)

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This course is suitable for those who wish to gain the practical skills and knowledge required for access to employment in the industry, those who are already employed and would like to obtain relevant and up to date practical skills and knowledge and those who would like to progress on to higher levels of study.

During the course you will develop your skills and gain an understanding of equipment functions, how materials behave when subjected to fabrication and welding processes and the correct procedures for safety that are paramount in this industry.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course will start in September and will take one year to complete. You will attend College two evenings per week on Monday and Wednesday, from 6.00pm - 9.00pm.

The course takes place at St Helens College, STEM Centre Campus, St Helens, WA9 1TT.

What will I study?

This programme consists of the following:

  • Health and Safety in a Fabrication and Welding Environment
  • Materials, Science and Calculations for Fabrication and Welding Practice
  • Manual Metal Arc Welding - Low Carbon Steel
  • Metal Arc Gas Shielded Welding - Low Carbon Steel
  • Tungsten Arc Gas Shielded Welding - Low Carbon Steel

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by completion of unit workbooks, practical tests and external examinations.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements, however a strong interested in welding or previous experience in this industry is preferred.

What are the course fees?

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you may wish to progress on to further study at the college, an apprenticeship, or employment in the welding industry.
