Preliminary Dog Grooming

If you spend time grooming your dog, or caring for canines, then dog grooming may be a profession for you. This course will provide you with all that you need to know to become a professional and qualified dog groomer. You'll learn how to groom different breeds, provide a first-class customer care experience and discover the business opportunities that are available upon completion of the course.

This part-time course provides students with an interest in dog grooming the opportunity to develop new skills, knowledge of the industry and the confidence to work with animals.

As a student you will be provided with the opportunity to progress onto the College's popular Advanced Techniques in Dog Grooming course after completing this course. The advanced course will enhance your overall employability and provide you with the skills required to launch your own dog grooming business/salon.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This part-time course has start dates in September, December and March, and will take 6 weeks to complete. The course has daytime and evening study options and you will attend college for one, three hour session per week.

What will I study?

During this 6 week course you will study a variety of different modules that will help you gain essential sector knowledge and skills. You will study subjects such as:

  • Health and safety
  • Grooming equipment
  • Bathing
  • Grooming
  • Canine behaviour and restraint
  • Health checks
  • Customer service
  • Skin and coat conditions
  • Grooming techniques
  • Basic clipping and scissoring

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through your practical course work and punctuality.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements to enrol onto this course.

What are the course fees?

The total cost of this course is £625. To secure your place, you will need to pay a £200 deposit with the remaining balance payable upon enrolment. You can pay your deposit and reserve your place in our online shop.

This is a full cost course meaning that there are no fee discounts available.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you may choose to seek employment or alternatively you may wish to further your knowledge by progressing onto our Advanced Grooming Techniques course.

Many of our successful students have secured employment within the industry and have even gone onto running their very own dog grooming business/salon. Equally, many students just wish join the course as a hobby.
