Advanced Dog Grooming

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This course is the perfect next step if you have already completed our Preliminary Dog Grooming course, or if you already have some industry experience and would like to enhance your skills, knowledge and employability.

During this course you will continue to develop your skills to gain a greater level of understanding of dog grooming. You will use standard grooming equipment and will learn hands on in our dog grooming studio with our expert tutor.

The course will cover the basics of bathing and grooming, as well as the basic techniques of scissoring and clipping different coat types, to deliver a pet standard groom.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

We have various start dates throughout the year, both during the day and in the evening. The course will take 12 weeks to complete, however, we also have a fast track option available, which can be completed in 6 weeks.

The course takes place at St Helens College, STEM Centre Campus, St Helens WA9 1TT.

What will I study?

During the course you will study a variety of different modules that will help you gain essential sector knowledge and skills.

  • Salon health and safety
  • Preparation of coat types ready for bathing
  • Styling as requested by pet owners
  • Basic scissoring
  • Basic clipping - coat types and styles
  • Basic styling - coat types and styles
  • Customer service

You will be encouraged to make your own decisions in assessing the dog for the work and tools that are needed, for the style that has been requested.

You will study alongside like-minded people in classes delivered by friendly supportive tutors.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through your practical course work, attendance and punctuality.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

To enrol on to this course, you should have completed the Preliminary Dog Grooming course, or have some industry experience.

What are the course fees?

The total cost of this course is £650. To secure your place, you will need to pay a £200 deposit with the remaining balance payable upon enrolment. You can pay your deposit and reserve your place in our online shop.

This is a full cost course meaning that there are no fee discounts available.

Additional Information

A dog grooming tunic must be worn for the advanced dog grooming course. One of our recommended suppliers is Mutneys Professional Pet Care. Waterproof footwear may be preferred to be used during bathing sessions.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

On successful completion of this course you could progress onto a professional dog grooming qualification. Alternatively, many of our students have secured employment within the industry and have even gone onto running their very own dog grooming business or salon.
