Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care


This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

By 2040, the number of people aged over 64 in Britain is expected to grow from 9.5 million to 15 million. Due to the UKs aging population, an increasing number of people will live with serious chronic illness and ultimately need end of life care. The problems faced and support needed by people nearing the end of life is wide-ranging and this course will provide you with a good understanding of the role of a care worker throughout the end of life care process including pain management and quality of life. This course is ideal for those who are looking to pursue a career in adult health care or individuals who are already employed in this sector and hoping to progress in their current careers.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has flexible start dates throughout the year.

The flexibility of the course allows you to learn at your own pace and is estimated to take up to 135 study hours to complete.

What will I study?

You will develop the knowledge and understanding to deliver appropriate end of life care and support to both patients and their families.

Units covered include:

  • Understand how to work in end of life care
  • Care planning in end of life care
  • Understand how to provide support to manage pain and discomfort
  • End of life care and dementia
  • Understanding the role of the Care Worker in time of death
  • Understand loss and grief in end of life care

How is it assessed?

This is an online distance learning course which is assessed through a series of online assessments.

Full tutor support will be provided by the College throughout the course and you will be able to contact your tutor via telephone and email.

You will complete the course on an interactive, online learning platform and upon successful completion you will be awarded with a nationally recognised qualification and a certificate of achievement by CACHE NCFE.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

No previous qualifications are necessary, although some basic computer skills are required.

This course is suitable for anyone who is already working or looking to secure a role in this industry or those wishing to progress onto further education.

What are the course fees?

Our distance learning courses are free to those who meet certain eligibility criteria*.

To be eligible for funding you must be:

  • A UK resident
  • Aged 19 or over (those aged 19-23 must have already achieved at least a full level 2 qualification)

*The college will carry out a simple funding assessment to check eligibility.

Please note, there will be a charge of £90 if you do not complete the course.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

This course provides fantastic progression on to further distance learning courses depending on your career aims, such as the level 2 Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings or level 2 Understanding Dignity and Safeguarding in Adult Health and Social Care qualifications.
