Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings

This course is designed to provide an understanding of the prevention and control of infection within healthcare settings.

You will explore everything from the meaning and importance of infection control and the causes of infections to methods used to prevent and control the spread of infection.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has flexible start dates throughout the year and should take approximately one academic year to complete.

The flexibility of the course allows you to learn at your own pace and is estimated to take up to 135 study hours to complete.

What will I study?

You will increase your knowledge of a range of areas surrounding prevention and control of infection. Units covered, include:

  • Principles of the causes and spread of infection in health care settings
  • Principles of the importance of personal hygiene and health in the prevention and control of infection in health care settings
  • Principles of decontamination, cleaning and waste management in health care settings
  • Principles of infection prevention and control in a health care setting

Access to a computer, email and the internet is vital as all units will be completed online.

How is it assessed?

This is an online distance learning course which is assessed through a series of online assessments.

Full tutor support will be provided by the College throughout the course and you will be able to contact your tutor via telephone and email.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

No previous qualifications are necessary, although some basic computer skills are required.

This course is suitable for anyone who is already working or looking to secure a role in this industry or wishing to progress onto further education.
