Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Dignity and Safeguarding in Adult Health and Social Care


This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

The responsibilities of care workers to protect the health, well-being and human rights of vulnerable individuals are far-reaching and can often involve health agencies, government departments or the police. Understanding the fundamentals of safeguarding is essential for anyone working in adult health and social care. During this course learners will examine the principles of dignity, safeguarding and duty of care and how they are applied in everyday work contexts. They will also have an opportunity to explore the potential dilemmas that may arise. This course is designed for those who are already working with or intending to work with vulnerable adults in a health and social care setting.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has flexible start dates throughout the year.

The flexibility of the course allows you to learn at your own pace and is estimated to take up to 145 study hours to complete.

What will I study?

You will gain a clear understanding of the principles of dignity and safeguarding applied to adult health and social care.

Units covered include:

  • Understand safeguarding in adult health and social care
  • Principles of dignity in adult health and social care practice
  • Understand duty of care in adult health and social care
  • Understand dilemmas and public concerns in adult health and social care

How is it assessed?

This is an online distance learning course which is assessed through a series of online assessments.

Full tutor support will be provided by the College throughout the course and you will be able to contact your tutor via telephone and email.

You will complete the course on an interactive, online learning platform and upon successful completion you will be awarded with a nationally recognised qualification and a certificate of achievement by CACHE NCFE.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

No previous qualifications are necessary, although some basic computer skills are required.

This course is suitable for anyone who is already working or looking to secure a role in this industry or those wishing to progress onto further education.

What are the course fees?

Our distance learning courses are free to those who meet certain eligibility criteria*.

To be eligible for funding you must be:

  • A UK resident
  • Aged 19 or over (those aged 19-23 must have already achieved at least a full level 2 qualification)

*The college will carry out a simple funding assessment to check eligibility.

Please note, there will be a charge of £90 if you do not complete the course.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

This course provides fantastic progression on to further distance learning courses depending on your career aims, such as the level 2 Principles of Care Planning or level 2 Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities qualifications.
