Level 2 Technical Certificate in Plastering

This course takes your learning to the next level through enhancing your skills and knowledge of plastering within the construction industry.

You will learn how to complete a variety of detailed plastering tasks including repair work as well as developing your ability to interpret information by working out materials required and costings for a variety of projects.

As a trained Plasterer, you could work on housing sites, city developments, domestic extensions and conservatories, new work, conversions or repairs. You might want the security of site work or possibly branch out on your own, become self-employed and start your own business.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

This course will take place at our STEM Centre Campus, Pocket Nook Street, St Helens, WA9 1TT.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following:

  • Applying plaster materials to internal surfaces
  • Applying render materials to external surfaces
  • Drying lining and plasterboard products to interiors
  • Forming sand and cement screeds
  • Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
  • Understanding construction technology
  • Understanding information, quantities and communication with others

In addition to this, you will have the opportunity to gain some work experience within the construction industry.

How is it assessed?

During this course, you'll be assessed through an end of year exam and practical synoptic exercise.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have successfully achieved a level 1 Plastering qualification or have achieved a grade 4 or above in English and maths.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2024), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you could enhance your skills and knowledge by undertaking the level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Plastering.

Alternatively, you could progress directly into employment.
