Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This qualification is aimed at practicing plumbers and heating engineers, who already have an understanding of the fundamental requirements of central heating systems and who wish to design and install energy efficient low temperature hot water heating systems that may use heat pumps as the heat source.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course has various start dates throughout the year and will take two days to complete.

The course takes place at St Helens College's Green Energy Skills Centre, St Helens, WA9 1AR.

What will I study?

Topics covered include:

  • How to design low temperature heating systems including heat loss calculations
  • How to size pipework, emitters, and circulators
  • How to select and install the most efficient heating controls

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

Trainees will need to have some knowledge of plumbing and the water industry.

What are the course fees?

The total cost of this course is £200.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

This qualification is a recommended pre-requisite to allow progression on to the Level 3 Award in Air Source Heat Pump Systems (Non-refrigerant Circuits) ETS-006, the Level 3 Award in Ground Source Heat Pump Systems (Non-refrigerant Circuits) ETS-007 and the Level 3 Award in Heat Pump Systems (Non-refrigerant Circuits) ETS-008.

The holder of this qualification is not recognised as a competent hot water and heating systems (low temperature) installer. However, the holder is recognised as being competent to carry out the design of hot water and heating systems (low temperature).
