Delicious Desserts

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This course will provide an introduction to a wide variety of modern and classic desserts, utilising numerous preparation and cooking methods including baking, steaming and deep-frying.

This inspiring course will allow you to develop essential craft skills and provide you with a firm foundation to build your repertoire of delicious desserts!

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course is due to start on Thursday 11th January 2024. You will attend college on Thursday evening from 6.00pm - 9.00pm, for four weeks.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

The course will allow you to develop the essential craft skills in preparing and cooking delicious desserts.

Some of the desserts you will make may include:

  • Crème brullee
  • White chocolate and blueberry cheesecake
  • Steamed lemon sponge and homemade custard
  • Sticky toffee pudding
  • Brownies
  • Berry bavarois

How is it assessed?

There is no formal assessment. You will be given feedback based on your progress with suggestions and guidance for areas for improvement.

As with all our leisure courses the main emphasis is to come and enjoy.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements. The course is suitable for all levels of ability.

You will need to wear strong, flat sensible shoes and bring along an apron, tea towel, and an oven glove.

Please bring along a container to take what you have made home with you.

What are the course fees?

You may be eligible for Community Learning funding if you have not recently participated in a similar Community Learning programme, or received any other recent government funded training.

There are a number of fee options for this course including:

  • If you are unemployed - FREE
  • If you are employed - £40

The course price is inclusive of all of the ingredients that you will need for each session.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

You may wish to progress onto an accredited qualification in this subject, which will allow you to practice your skills in the industry.
